Ed Garvey, President and CEO of The Garvey Group, Inducted Into the Printing Industry Hall of Fame

Garvey Jr., its president and CEO, has been inducted into the Printing Impressions/RIT 2010 Printing Industry Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place at a special gala on Monday Oct. 4, 2010 in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel during Graph Expo in Chicago. Garvey was joined in the Hall of Fame by three additional honorees that evening.

Ed Garvey - Hall of FameGarvey was nominated by his peers and chosen, from a field of finalists, by a panel consisting of printing industry association presidents, as well as Printing Impressions and the Rochester Institute of Technology. “Ed was chosen in part because he has a reputation as a dynamic leader, his company is a force in the Midwest printing market, his staunch business acumen is a huge part of his company’s growth and success, and his willingness to embrace technology,” says Erik Cagle, Printing Impressions senior editor.

“I am proud to be selected for the Printing Industry Hall of Fame,” says Garvey. “Our company was established three-generations ago and we continue to hold the values, service, and quality instilled in us over these past 91 years. However, we’ve been nimble to make changes as the industry and markets have evolved and we’ve responded with the best technology for our customers. I am deeply gratified. I accept this honor for my entire family and dedicated employees.”

Three Premier Print Awards for Garvey Large-Format

The Garvey Group, one of the largest independent printers in the Midwest, was recognized with three Premier Print Awards, the graphic arts industry’s largest and most prestigious worldwide printing competition, hosted by Printing Industries of America. The Premier Print Awards recognizes those responsible for the creation and production of outstanding print communications.benny

Of the total entries in this year’s competition only 32% won an award. The Garvey Group received one Award of Recognition and two Certificates of Merit for pieces including Alice in Wonderland, Gatorade, and Jim Beam.

Michael Makin, president and CEO of Printing Industries of America, notes, “Each year, the field of entries brings impressive work from some of the best printers in the world. Only a small number of companies receive any award."

The Premier Print Awards is the printing industry’s oldest and largest worldwide graphic arts competition. In its 61st year, the competition recognizes those responsible for the creation and production of superior print communications. The event promotes excellence in print and rewards companies and individuals who produce the best in print media.

The Garvey Group Large-Format Awarded 3 Pinnacle Print Awards

The Garvey Group, a network of advertising, marketing, print production, and fulfillment services based in the Chicago suburb of Niles, Illinois received 3 awards for outstanding achievement in the category of Large-Format Printing in the 8th Annual 2010 Pinnacle Print Awards Competition, a two-state printing competition hosted by the Printing Industry of Illinois and Indiana, the states’ trade association for printing and the graphic arts.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition for the hard work our people put into the production of these pieces”, said Joe Kulis, Chief Operating Officer at The Garvey Group, Niles.

2010 PII Awards PiecesCompeting against 195 entries from printing and graphic arts firms from the two states, The Garvey Group received one of each, Best of Category, Award of Excellence, and Certificate of Merit. All jobs where produced on Garvey's KBA Rapid 205, 81-inch six-color sheet–fed press using printing techniques including aqueous and UV coatings. Winning pieces included a point of purchase DVD display system for the movie Avatar, an in store display system for Gatorade, and product packaging for Alienware Computers.

The Pinnacle Print Awards recognizes outstanding craftsmanship in the creation and production of printed material in Illinois and Indiana. The competition promotes excellence in print communications and rewards companies and individuals who produce only the finest in print media.

More than 103,000 employees generating $17.3 billion in annual sales make the graphic arts industry one of the largest manufacturing sectors in Illinois and Indiana. Combined, the two states represent more than 9.9% of graphic arts sales nationally.
